Hey guys I know its been a while I’ve had a pretty crazy summer and haven’t had much time to wrote but I’m back at school now and in the swing of things again so ill try to keep posting regularly.

Okay on that note why don’t we talk about the Billboard top 100 in recent years. In the past six years there has been a rise, and I mean RISE in pop music dominating the billboard. Am I saying there’s anything wrong with people listening to pop music? No not exactly but I do have a bone to pick with this increase in popularity for artists like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter.

Recently both pop and pop-country have been influencing the media heavily and overtaking the billboards. Why is there such a rise in these genres of music? They all sound the same, they are all produced for an algorithm. One song goes viral and every other artist copies the same blueprint. Music is no longer an artform designed to put on the turntable and sit and listen to it, beginning to end in order. Music now is manufactured to be sold, to be played over another video of some popular influencer as she plasters makeup on her face or walks to Pilates with a matcha in hand. Music now is put on a playlist with the intention of playing on shuffle and it’s starting to show. Why is nothing original anymore? What happened to trying to make different music? Not caring if the entire world loved it because you do and that’s what really mattered? Instead, we have artists like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Ella Langly, and Megan Moroney producing the same “heartthrobs” about another breakup with some jerk who cheated again. Sence when is that all music’s about!?

Now that I got that off my chest, I will admit the billboards aren’t full of all bad things. Slightly lower down on the rankings than some of the artists I previously mentioned we have artists trying to do their own thing and make original music. Tame Impala, Steve Lacy, Dominik Fike all mainstream while maintaining own original sound. This begs the question why are more popular artists all sounding the same when different stuff goes viral as well? Are they just taking the easy way out? What has happened to original music?
